HVAC Testing

The Vitals Package

BUILDING SHELL, HEALTH & SAFETY, HVAC

In simple terms, think of your house like a big puzzle with two main pieces: the outside structure (like walls, roof, windows, and doors) and the inside machinery (like heating, cooling, and ventilation systems). How well these pieces fit together affects how comfy your home feels. To really understand what’s up with your house, you need to check both parts to make sure they’re in tune with one another. This tier three package focuses on both of those parts. Additionally, it includes health and safety testing.

building enclosure

TEST – air sealing, insulation

Blower door test. How leaky is the entire house?

Zonal pressure test. How leaky are individual rooms?

Pressure pan test. Are interior walls more connected to the interior space or to outside? How much so?

Visual inspection. How much insulation is in my attic, walls, and basement? Does it meet code?

health & safety

TEST – air quality, poisonous gases, ventilation

Indoor air quality test. Does the air inside your house have unsafe levels of carbon monoxide (CO) or methane gas?

Gas leak detection test. Are the gas lines inside and around the house leaking natural gas?

Depressurization test. Is my house causing my water heating to backdraft poisonous gasses into my house?

CO combustion appliance test. Are my combustion appliances producing dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide?

Heating efficiency test. How efficiently are my combustion appliances operating?

Mechanical ventilation calculations. How much fresh air ventilation does my house need and how can that need be met?

Exhaust Fan test. How much air are my bath fans actually removing? Is this meeting code? Are they being vented to approved locations?

HVAC

TEST – Air flow, air distribution

Duct pressure test. Is my ductwork restricting airflow to the rooms in my home?

HVAC balance test. Are rooms in my house being over or under pressurized by my HVAC system?

I’ve been having issues with temperature differences in my house. I had some ideas of what I should be doing to fix it. Stephen really helped me get the whole picture of what I should do. I’m glad I had the inspection done before I started paying for expensive updates that might not have been necessary. He was also helpful with little questions after the inspection.
