Think of your house like a big puzzle with two main pieces: the outside structure (like walls, roof, doors and windows) and the inside machinery (like heating and cooling systems). How well these pieces fit together (how well they are tuned to one another) affects how comfy your home feels. To really understand what’s up with your house, you need to check both parts to make sure they’re working well together. Upper tiers generally include all lower-tier testing.

Tier 1 – building Shell

TEST – air sealing, insulation

Includes Tests: Blower door test, zonal pressure test, pressure pan test, visual inspection.

Questions Answered. How leaky is the entire house? How leaky are individual rooms? Are interior walls more connected to the interior space or to outside? How much so? How much insulation is in my attic, walls, and basement? Does it meet code?

Cost. Starts at $550

Tier 2 – health & safety

TEST – air quality, poisonous gases, ventilation

Includes Tests: Indoor air quality test, Gas leak detection test, spillage test, CO combustion appliance test, heating efficiency test, exhaust fan test, mechanical ventilation calculations.

Questions Answered. Does the air inside your house have unsafe levels of carbon monoxide (CO) or methane gas? Are the gas lines inside and around the house leaking natural gas? Is my house causing my water heating to backdraft poisonous gasses into my house? Are my combustion appliances producing dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide?

How efficiently are my combustion appliances operating? How much fresh air ventilation does my house need and how can that need be met? How much air are my bath fans actually removing? Is this meeting code? Are they being vented to approved locations?

Cost. Starts at $850

Tier 3 – HVAC

TEST – Air flow, air distribution, 3d modeling

Includes Tests: Duct pressure test, total system airflow test, HVAC balance test.

Questions Answered. Is my ductwork restricting airflow to the rooms in my home? Is my HVAC equipment moving enough air to keep me comfortable? Is my system performing to its full capacity? Am I getting what I paid for? Are rooms in my house being over or under pressurized by my HVAC system?

Cost. Starts at $2000

Stephen is extremely knowledgeable, professional and caring. He listened to what I was looking for and delivered just that. I wanted an audit to help me make future remodeling/upgrade decisions. He was so thorough and his report and follow-on meeting gave me so much data to help me make informed decisions moving forward. Now I have the resources and can even make some small immediate changes while I figure out the bigger projects that will make my home safer, more comfortable and energy efficient. Highly recommend for anyone’s home.
